S01E09 Weekly Crypto News, Credits platform ICO, & MAIDSAFE update

Apologies for the sound quality this week - if it's not one problem it's another.  This week seemed to be a connection issue.  We will continue to work on it and hopefully sooner rather than later we'll get it sorted out.

shownotes:
  1. Topic #1 --  weekly review of the top five crypto’s of the week.
    1. Leading news - … Okay …  Onward with the top five today ...
      1. Bitcoin - Death by a thousand sell-offs
      2. Ethereum - doing better than many
      3. Ripple - Historically ripple has been more stable than it's neighbors, now it's far more unstable. Why would I buy?
      4. Bitcoin Cash - Like bitcoin, suffering from the same problem - maybe worse.
      5. Cardano -
    2. This weeks movers and shakers ... Some high market cap crypto's with big gains this week ...
      1. Pillar-PLR--
      2. Nano (formerly RAIBLOCKS)-XRB--
      3. Aeternity-AE--
      4. Populous-PPT--
  2. Topic #2 -- news segment --
    1. -- Our leading news this week -- It's been revealed that Bitfinex and Tether received subpoenas from the US regulators, news of which only leaked out two days ago.
    2. -- Robinhood, an existing securities trading app is moving into the crypto scene bringing with them all their experience,
not only of trading software, but of the regulatory space. They are attracting a lot of new and existing crypto-traders because they are offing zero-fees and are a trusted name. My take - more & more money is going to flow into the crypto space.

    3. -- Venezuela now legalizes bitcoin and cryptocurrency mining and announces presale of their new 'petro' coin.
    4. -- The Square cash app is now enabling bitcoin payments. This move by square Inc indicates that they are moving to allow retailers everywhere who use their square POS system to accept bitcoin as a form of payment thus vastly increasing the use case for bitcoin.
    5. -- US government agency NIST affirms what many of us knew all along - that Bitcoin Cash is the 'original' bitcoin and that what's called bitcoin now is the hard fork.
    6. -- As followup to previous weeks news stories, South Korea Finance Minister Kim Dong-yeon has reaffirmed that the government will not ban or otherwise “suppress” cryptocurrency in the country.
  3. Topic #3 -- ICO SEGMENT.   -- Credits
    1. --
    2. Key points, are as follows:
      1. -- Smart contract platform utilizing JAVA is core contract language
      2. -- Very low fees for contract processing - cheaper than ethereum
      3. -- Super high speed capabilities and highly scalable - far surpassing the current version of ethereum
      4. -- already have a MVP (minimum viable product).
      5. -- good rating on icobench and a large dedicated team behind it.

    3. Drawbacks? - for an ICO, none ... for long term hodling, there is a large amount of competition in this space now - how many platforms are needed or wanted? As we discussed in last weeks episode, EOS's warchest is possibly going to give it dominance - supposing the software works as planned.
    4. White paper

    6. Icobench page
  4. Topic #4 -- MAIDSAFE update
    1. Highlights:
      1. -- They will be using the additional amount of funds raised for the Safecoin "Video CEP" to work on two different videos - the first video on Safecoin as planned and a new one on the SAFE Consensus mechanism.
      2. --They are launching a Community Member of the Month competition - more details can be found in this post.
      3. --The first version of the SAFE UX [user experience] Guidelines document (for app developers) has been published here.
      4. --The front-end team is releasing a new version of safe-node-app (v0.7.0) as well as a new version of Peruse (the custom browser that will eventually replace the SAFE Beaker Browser). You can download the latest version of Peruse (v0.4.1) here.
      5. --The Routing team has outlined the JIRA tasks for the Milestone 1 implementation. The tasks are still work-in-progress and are being updated as they’re constantly continuing to improve the design.
      6. --The Crust team is in the process of bringing encryption to Crust. Some parts are already functioning but a few other things still need to be considered (bootstrap connections, LAN discovery messages, address echo service request/response encryption, etc).
    2. For greater detail and for the technical updates please check out the link in the shownotes:
  5. FIN -- That’s all we have today folks. I’d like to thank both our viewers and my co-hosts for joining me today.  We hope you found the episode informative and helpful. Please subscribe, like, comment & share our video with others!  … Tune in next week for another interesting episode.
